Colorado Mountain Trip

Once again, my '08 1300T performed perfectly, this time on a 3-day/2-up trip to Black Hawk/Central City, Keystone and Vail. On the way there, we took CO 119 to Black Hawk, won and lost some $$$$, then enjoyed the lunch buffet at The Riviera. We decided to go through Central City so we could take the Central City Parkway back to I-70. That's when the rain started. East of the Eisenhower Tunnel at exit 234, it was hailing so hard that we had no choice but to pull off. Luckily, there was a gas station, where we could get under cover, joining other bikers who were there for the same reason. Once the hail stopped and the rain let up a bit, we continued on, only to have to stop again, this time in a construction zone west of the tunnel because of more hail. This time, however, there was no cover to get under. We just had to wait it out for awhile. (Thank goodness for rainsuits and helmets!) The next morning, we waited a couple of hours for the weather to clear before leaving Keystone for Vail. However, before too long, it started to rain, and rain hard; we were in a downpour all the way over Vail Pass, some of the time on grooved pavement - which I hate to ride on, even when it's dry. Once in Vail, the sun came out, we met our friends and had a wonderful lunch at Pepi's, right in the heart of Vail Village. The ride back to Keystone that night was very cold, but otherwise uneventful. The third day, it was nice weather from Keystone to Black Hawk (won/lost more $$$$, breakfast buffet at The Isle of Capri), then home. Gas mileage, using 87 octane, was 54.58 mpgs. Yesterday, I detailed the bike; it's ready for another venture.
