I just completed a 4,000 mile trip from southern Indiana to Mtn. Home, Idaho, just east of Boise. This was a test of my V Star 1300 plus me (62 years old). Bike performed flawlessly. Tractor trailers struggled up the Rockey Mountains at 30 mph in the right lane, with their emergency lights flashing and the V Star passing them at 75 mph without any effort at all. The throttle lock and back rests were much appreciated. The back rest allowed me to lift my body off the seat to relieve pressure and the throttle lock allowed me to rest my hand in my lap to prevent cramping. One day I rode for 16 hours and covered 915 miles. I should have used sun screen, my face got burnt. Much of the trip west was on the Old Lincoln Highway (30), in Nebraska I switched to I 80 and found the traffic light and could go faster. Return trip was south to Provo, UT, then I 70. Once in eastern Colorado the highway was flat and straight. Biggest hassles was getting through the cities (Denver, Kansas City, and St. Louis). Next year: Key West, half the distance of this trip.
