Just made my first post even though I've been lurking for awhile, so I thought I should also introduce myself. As with many here, I'm in the Kansas City area (Olathe, KS). I've owned my 2007 red Tourer for about a year now. It's a perfect match to my red 2011 Taurus SHO and red 2003 Thunderbird convertible (told you I was a Husker!).
I had a Suzuki 550E back in college and my wife and I loved to ride it up until the kids came along and took up all our time (and garage space). Well the kids are all grown and on their own, so a friend kept prodding me to get a bike so we could ride with them, but I was concerned that my balance/reaction time had suffered with age (I'm only 52) so I first bought the T-bird thinking that would scratch the "open ride" itch. It's a lot of fun, but still not a bike. One day I got on his son's Kaw. 1100 and it was like I never missed a day on the bike ... I was hooked. I bought my bike shortly after that. It makes the daily drive to/from work more enjoyable and we've got a group of 3 couples from church that like to take area rides on the weekends.
I've added a few enhancements - HD lowers (big buffeting help!), chrome fender tips, a Kruiser Kup, Knight Riderz light, T-Bag pack, and recently an Ultimate 4-piece seat (ahhhh). Another recent "addition" was the purchase of a "Mini-Star" - a V-Star 650, same color/age/miles. My youngest son is wanting to ride at college and will be going to Law school next year. I couldn't really say no since I found it so useful in college. He's a sensible kid (22 is still a kid, right?) so I thought the 650 would be a good starter bike that will last him for some time ... and the sale price made it an easy decision. For now, it's still in my garage until he finishes the MC Safety class in a couple weeks.
My thanks to everyone for the useful information posted on these forums, the good pictures that allow new members to see how this great bike can be personalized, and the helpful "How-To Section". Enjoy the ride!!
