Saddlemen explorer seat

I got this from Shane @ SS custom cycle a couple of weeks ago. It was actually bigger than what I expected(the box anyway), it was definitely packed to survive the trip. Removal of the oem seat was a breeze. But then the seat became smarter than me.

It is a 1 piece that clips in the rear and latches in the front, both to the original hardware. First I could not get the back to clip in, no matter how much I pushed or pulled it would not go. I finally had to bend, just the slightest, the clip. Then, after some wiggling, it went in. Time for the front, again, no matter how hard I pushed down the front would not latch in.The front was actually suspended about 1-1.5 inches up. and there was a gap in the middle under the seat.

Then, like a light bulb, this is a 1 piece, the original was a 2 piece. There are 2 mounting brackets from the oem seats that need to be removed so the seat site flat. I am glad I picked up new tools this a.m. My tool set had consisted of 2 screwdrivers, a pair of plyers and a hammer. These would have never worked. So, after removing the middle mounting brackets, the seat layed flat and latched right into place.

So. if you get a 1 piece replacement seat, do not forget to remove the middle brackets. What took me almost 30 minutes, should have really took about 7 with a break in the middle. Now off to try it out and maybe next week I will replace the handle bars... or a 6 pack to anyone in the D.C. area to do it for me.
